Coach Moser's Thoughts
"I thought our second-half defense was really good and it was great to see us knock down some shots tonight."
Â
How It Happened
IUPUI rode the hot shooting of Marcus Burk, who drained four early three-pointers, to stake claim to a 21-18 lead nearly ten minutes into the game. But, a three from
Lucas Williamson, his third of the night to that point, jump-started a string of eight unanswered points that put the Ramblers ahead to stay, 26-21.Â
Â
The Jaguars trimmed the Loyola lead to two points on three occasions, the last coming when a jumper from Mike DePersia cut the Ramblers' advantage to 30-28 with 3:41 remaining in the opening period. From there, Loyola took over the game, assembling a 19-5 run, which was highlighted by 10 points from
Cameron Krutwig and seven from
Marquise Kennedy, spanning both halves, to expand the lead to a comfortable 49-33 margin.Â
Â
Loyola's lead would eventually balloon to as many as 30 points (83-53) when
Tom Welch sank a pair of free throws in the closing minutes.Â
Â
A Look At The Numbers
- Loyola came into tonight's contest shooting just 24.6 percent (16-for-65) from beyond the arc, but broke out of that early slump in a big way.
- Williamson's 22 points fell one shy of equaling his career best set last season versus Richmond (23) at the Fort Myers Tip-Off.Â
- Krutwig provided the Ramblers' high-octane offense with 18 points and added seven rebounds, two assists and a pair of blocks, while Kennedy totaled 14 points.
- Freshman Paxson Wojcik enjoyed his finest game as a Rambler, producing 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals off the bench to round out Loyola's cast of double-digit scorers.
- Aher Uguak pitched in nine points and four assists in the winning effort.
- Burk scored a game-high 23 points for IUPUI, which saw its modest two-game win streak grind to a halt.
