RAMBLINGS
• The Ramblers split last week's action with a home win vs. George Washington (77-57) and road loss to Saint Louis (98-67).
• In the win over the Revs,
Jayden Dawson led Loyola with 16 points, while
Francis Nwaokorie and
Jalen Quinn scored 12 each.
Miles Rubin added 10 points. Several Ramblers were on the cusp of double-figures -
Sheldon Edwards Jr. (9),
Kymany Houinsou (8), and
Jalen DeLoach (8).
• Nwaokorie went 4-4 from three-point range and led Loyola with eight rebounds.
• At Saint Louis, Rubin led Loyola with 16 points on 7-8 from the field. He added three rebounds, one assist, and one blocks.
• Rubin is on a five-game double-figure scoring streak. He opened it with a 10-point, 11-rebound performance against SLU back on Feb. 14. He has since dropped 14, 14, 10, and 16 in the following four games. During that stretch, Rubin has three games with four blocks.
• The sophomore center has 67 blocks and counting this season, ranking second on the single-season charts. He set the record last year with 76. Rubin is up to 143 career blocks, sitting fourth all-time. He will move up to third when tallying his 150th.
• Another milestone to watch is
Sheldon Edwards Jr. on the single-season three-pointers made chart. He's drained 83 this season and needs three more to break the record.
• Both Rubin and Edwards Jr. are trending in the nation's top players. Rubin ranks 11th in total blocks (67) and 14th in blocks per game (2.3), while Edwards Jr. ranks 49th in three-pointers made per game (2.86) and 74th three-point percentage (.379).
• Head coach
Drew Valentine is in his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a 77-49 overall record as head coach.
SCOUTING DAVIDSON
The Wildcats are 16-13 overall and 6-10 in A-10 play heading into the final week of regular season action. Davidson fell to both Saint Louis and VCU last week and face a 4-6 record on the road. The Wildcats take care of the ball well, leading the league in fewest turnovers per game (9.4) and assist to turnover ratio (1.59). They rank 12th and 15th in the NCAA, respectively.
Davidson has the league's leading scorer in Reed Bailey. He averaged 19.1 points per game, coming in at 46th in the nation. VCU snapped a 15-game double-figure scoring streak by Bailey who scored just six points over the weekend. That 15-game stretch saw nine games with at least 20 points and two games with 30 points scored by the junior forward.
Matt McKillop is in his third season at the helm with a 47-46 record with Davidson.
