Ramblers Stumble Against Billikens

ST. LOUIS – Loyola Chicago dropped Saturday's game at Saint Louis, 98-67. A hot night of three-point shooting by the Billikens helped them to the win. Miles Rubin led the Ramblers with 16 points on 7-8 from the field.

With the loss, Loyola falls to 19-10 overall and 10-6 in A-10 play.

"There are games every year where it's just not there," said head coach Drew Valentine. "Gotta give SLU credit. The shots they were taking were falling. Jimerson was flying around and having a great game. I give our guys credit for their effort. We talked at halftime and adjusted, and they stuck with it. Sometimes it's just not your game to win."

How It Happened
It was more than a minute into the game before Rubin scored the first bucket on a two-handed slam, but Saint Louis got hot quick, putting up a 22-5 run over the next 10 minutes. Kymany Houinsou and Sheldon Edwards Jr. would try to spark the Rambler offense, but the Billikens kept rolling to lead by 18 with 10:30 on the clock.

Jayden Dawson drained his first three a little over 15 second later, and Loyola would score seven unanswered with five from Des Watson, cutting the lead to 12 by 8:02. Dawson tallied another three inside the five-minute mark to keep the lead down at 12, but SLU built it back to 20 with a Gibson Jimerson three to end the half. The Billikens were up, 53-33.

The Ramblers scored 10 of the first 13 points of the second half and were led by Miles Rubin who dropped eight in the first 4:15 to get the Ramblers within 13 of the Billikens. A quick 10-0 run by SLU pushed their lead up to 24 with 10:29 on the clock.

Loyola couldn't get it back down under 20, while SLU kept building. Kilian Brockhoff hit a corner three for SLU's largest lead of the night at 34 with 2:20 to play. The Billikens would come away with the win, 98-67.
