Loyola Falls at Saint Joseph's

PHILADELPHIA – Loyola Chicago split the week on the road after falling to Saint Joseph's Saturday afternoon, 93-57. Sheldon Edwards Jr. led Loyola with 12 points, while Des Watson, Jayden Dawson, and Miles Rubin added 10 each.

With the loss, Loyola drops to 10-6 overall and 1-2 in A-10 play.

"They kicked our butts. We've gotta give those guys credit," said head coach Drew Valentine. "They played like a team on a mission, and yet again, our guys were veering off and doing their own thing. Our execution on both sides of the ball was very poor."

How It Happened
Saint Joseph's got off to a hot start in the first half, outscoring Loyola 7-2 by the first media timeout. The Ramblers were shooting just 11 percent from the field before Jalen DeLoach and Edwards Jr. snapped the scoreless stretch that got Loyola within five by the 14:13 mark. The Hawks didn't let off the gas with a 15-0 run with 10 from Erik Reynolds II over a three-minute period. SJU took their largest lead of the half at 27 with just over a minute to play in the first. Edwards Jr. drained a three on the final possession to finish the half with 12 points. SJU took a 53-29 lead into the break.

Loyola opened second half on a 9-4 run that saw five points from Des Watson and was capped by a tipped in second-chance basket from Francis Nwaokorie. The opening effort wasn't enough for the Ramblers as the Hawks saw a 15-0 run and held Loyola scoreless for over five minutes. Watson would break the scoreless streak with a drive inside for her 1,000th career point, but SJU ran away with the win.
