CHICAGO – Loyola Chicago cruised to an 87-57 win over Calumet St. Joseph in its lone exhibition game Tuesday night. Four Ramblers scored double-figures, including a team-high 16 points from
Justin Moore.
Moore was a perfect 6-of-6 from the field with two threes to pace the offense.
The Ramblers will open the 2024-25 season Monday night against Chicago State at 7:30 pm in Gentile Arena.
How It Happened
The Ramblers got off to a hot start Tuesday with a
Sheldon Edwards Jr. three-pointer for a 7-3 edge in the first two minutes. Calumet got back within one before Loyola blew the lead open to double-digits.
Jayden Dawson connected from deep at the 13:40 mark for an 11-point edge.
The gap grew to 21 with a three sunk by Moore with 7:55 remaining. Moore's three was part of a 14-0 Rambler run that was capped by the junior guard inside on a layup to go up 41-16.
Des Watson added from the arc on the final bucket of the half, and Loyola led at the break, 50-28.
Moore stayed hot from deep in the second half, connecting on another to give the Ramblers their largest lead yet at 27. Despite a free throw from Josh Morris at 12:37 to get Calumet back within 19, the Ramblers easily got their lead back to 25 on a dunk from Rubin with 10:35 to play. Dawson and Watson went on a combined 5-0 run for another 27-point lead by the 7:48 mark.
Francis Nwaokorie drove in for a bucket, sparking a 6-0 run to push the lead past 30.
Kymany Houinsou was added to the mix with a tip-in basket for a 33-point lead with 4:20 to play.
Seifeldin Hendawy and
Brayden Young added to the Rambler scoring down the stretch, and Loyola ran away with the win, 87-57.
