In Short
Tate Hall scored a game-high 23 points, but it wasn't enough for Loyola University Chicago (1-2) as Coppin State (1-2) rallied from a nine-point deficit early in the second half to escape Gentile Arena with a 76-72 victory tonight. The loss is the Ramblers' second straight.
Â
Coach Moser's Thoughts
"We let Coppin State stay in the game, but give them credit. I thought we played hard enough to win but not well enough to win. It starts with me. We have to get guys better. We had too many wasted possessions in the second half."
Â
How It Happened
The first half was a game of several runs. After Hall has helped the Ramblers get out to a 23-16 lead in the opening period, Coppin State roared back and thanks to a 14-2 spurt that was capped by a Kamar McKnight three-pointer, took hold of a 30-25 lead with 5:32 left in the half.Â
Â
Hall and Williamson combined to score the Ramblers' next nine points in what wound up being a half-closing 13-1 run that sent the Maroon and Gold into the break ahead, 38-31.Â
Â
Loyola's lead swelled to as many as nine on a Hall layup to open the second-half scoring, but the Ramblers couldn't apply the knockout punch. The Eagles charged back and eventually seized the lead for good when back-to-back baskets from Dejuan Clayton and Jordan Hardwick put Coppin State on top, 65-61.Â
Â
The Ramblers shrunk the gap to 72-71 on a pair of free throws from
Aher Uguak with five seconds remaining in regulation, but Clayton sealed the outcome by burying all four of his free throw tries in the final five seconds.
Â
A Look At The Numbers
