Boxscore (PDF)

CHICAGO (November 21, 2017)

In Short
Loyola University Chicago (5-0) rallied from a five-point deficit early in the second half to get past upstart Mississippi Valley State (0-5), 63-50, tonight at Gentile Arena. The Ramblers have now won 13 straight non-conference contests at Gentile Arena and are 5-0 for the first time since 2010-11.

How It Happened
Loyola shot 53 percent from the field in the first half, but Mississippi Valley State was able to close out the period by outscoring the Ramblers, 5-2, over the final 2:24 to take a 31-28 lead at the intermission.

Dante Scott's layup opened the second-half scoring to extend the Delta Devils' lead to 33-28, their largest of the game, before Loyola kicked it into another gear. A three-pointer from junior guard Marques Townes cut the MVSU lead down to two points, but Arinze Anakwenze followed with a jumper to double the Delta Devils' advantage.

From there, however, Loyola reeled off nine unanswered points as part of an overall 23-6 run that ended with the Ramblers holding a 54-41 lead. Ingram, who was held to just one point and three rebounds in the first half, scored eight points during that game-changing run, while Townes added six in that stretch, to power the Loyola rally.

Mississippi Valley State would get no closer than 11 points the remainder of the way and the Rambler defense stiffened in the second 20 minutes, holding the Delta Devils to a mere 28.6 percent (8-for-28) from the field, including 0-for-3 from three-point territory.

A Look At The Numbers
  • Ingram finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double of 2017-18.
  • Townes added 11 points and five assists as he scored in double digits for the fifth time in as many games as a Rambler.
  • Clayton Custer led all Loyola scorers with 13 points and added four assists, and Bruno Skokna (9 points) and Cameron Krutwig (8 points, 6 boards, 3 assists) also turned in solid efforts.
  • Tereke Eckwood led Mississippi Valley State with 15 points.
