Post-Game Quotes
Wright State 58, Loyola 41
January 8, 2011
Loyola head coach Jim Whitesell
Opening statement
"Right now, we're not doing what we need to be doing. We're not making the extra pass. We're not distributing the ball well. We're not making shots that we can make. This is conference, you have to make some plays here. We went with basically nine guys and gave them a lot of time. You've got to have some results. Wright State took us out of anything we wanted to do."
On Wright State's defense
"You have to be on your `A-game' offensively. We did a poor job in transition defense. We got behind. We weren't scoring well. And then we played even for a while, then had a run. (Ben) Averkamp in the second half got going there early. They were just sharper and better than us in every position. We have got to play better in every spot and I have got to do a better job coaching."
On the offensive struggles
"Three times in this game, we get the ball and there is a guy in the corner. We drive right back to the defense and they get a steal. Our offense the last two games has been turnover, poor shot, panic shot and maybe a good shot. That's one out of every four possessions that is good and that's not going to win you a lot of basketball games."
Loyola senior forward Andy Polka
On recovering from a tough loss less than 48 hours ago
"Wright State took us out of things we wanted to do and we kind of just gave in instead of fighting back and being a tougher team and staying with the stuff we have worked on all week."
On Wright State's defense
One of the advantages we had was that we played them tough in the past. I think games in my time here we have had a couple good games. We won last year. We're used to the way they play defense. I don't think we adjusted well for whatever reason and we didn't match their intensity. I think we got beat in every aspect of the game."
