Loyola vs. Wright State
Post-Game Quotes
January 27, 2007
Wright State guard DaShaun Wood
On the team's rebounding effort
"In the first game we played against Loyola, they beat us on the boards. Coach Brownell showed us the stats of their game against Butler and the films of what they did against us. He told us that if we even wanted a chance to win this game, we've got to box out. The number one emphasis on defense today was no second chance points, and that's what we did."
Wright State forward Drew Burleson
On difference between playing Loyola at home and on the road
"Loyola is a great team. When we played them at home we were hitting shots and we took them out of what they wanted to do. You can't expect to beat a team like that every time you play them. We just knew we had to play hard tonight. Like DeShaun (Wood) said, sometimes they will really beat you up on the boards so we really had to put a big emphasis on keeping them off the offensive boards. That is what allowed us to get a win tonight."
Loyola Head Coach Jim Whitesell
Opening Statement
"It seemed like every time we made a run in the second half, we'd have a bad shot or make a really poor decision. I expect more out of myself, I expect more out of our team."
On effect of Thursday's game against Butler
"The great thing about our schedule is that you get to play again after you lose a tough game. There is no excuse whatsoever. You're going to play a lot of games in a row. We are playing an incredibly tough team on Monday night in Youngstown State. I just expect more out of all of us, myself included. I'm just really disappointed. We subbed a lot of guys in the first ten minutes. We all have to step up and play. We're all accountable."
On offensive execution
"We were impatient. We were taking bad shots. We were working 25 to 30 seconds on the defensive end then offensively, we were taking five seconds. We lost a little momentum when we did that. We got frustrated and Wright State started playing better. You've got to make your run and get back in the game."
Loyola forward Leon Young
On Loyola's performance
"From a personal standpoint, I got a little frazzled. I got in early foul trouble and I think it affected my aggressiveness. It seemed to ripple throughout the rest of the team in the first half and affected us throughout the rest of the game."
On Loyola's offense
"We had some lapses. I think Wright State threw a lot of different defenses at us. They are good defensively and they played us man, 1-3-1 and 2-3. It seemed like we got a little frazzled."
Wright State Head Coach Brad Brownell
On Wright State's defensive game plan
"Our defensive strategy was to stay with them and shut out their shots. Loyola had a tough time shooting from three-point range. I thought our motion was better but we did give them a couple of looks."
