CHICAGO - Blake Schilb recorded his second double-double in as many games, but it wasn't enough as Loyola University Chicago (13-9, 4-5 Horizon) dropped a 59-47 decision in a defensive battle to Wright State (14-8, 7-2 Horizon) this afternoon at the Gentile Center. Schilb finished the game with 14 points and 10 rebounds and topped the 10-rebound mark for the fifth time in his career, but the Ramblers shot only 36 percent from the field for the game.
Loyola got off to a fast start, scoring the first five points of the game and led 13-11 five minutes into the game before the tempo slowed and the shots stopped falling for both teams. The Raiders held the Ramblers scoreless for nearly six minutes to turn a 16-15 lead into a 26-15 advantage and led 35-25 at the half.
At the outset of the second period, Loyola showed it resiliency by recording the first eight points, six on back-to-back threes from Schilb, to slice the deficit to 35-33. Wright State countered with a 9-2 run of its own to build the lead back up to nine, 44-35.
J.R Blount canned a pair of foul shots with 2:34 left to bring the Ramblers within four, 51-47, but Loyola missed its final five field-goal attempts and Wright State scored the final eight points of the contest to escape with the victory.
Schilb added four assists in addition to his 14 points and 10 boards while Leon Young and Majak Kou tallied eight points apiece. DaShaun Wood posted 13 points and eight rebounds to lead Wright State.
Loyola closes out this four-game home stand when it hosts Youngstown State on Monday, Jan. 29.
