Amorrow Morgan Headshot

Amorrow Morgan

Amorrow Morgan will begin his second season as an assistant coach at Loyola University Chicago in 2022-23. Prior to joining head coach Drew Valentine’s staff in Rogers Park, Morgan held the title of associate head coach at the University of South Alabama for two seasons after serving as an assistant coach during the 2018-19 campaign.

In Morgan’s first season on the Loyola staff, the Ramblers won 25 games, captured a second consecutive Missouri Valley Conference Championship crown and made another trip to the NCAA Tournament, the program’s third in the last five years. Morgan was instrumental in Loyola producing a handful of award winners during the 2021-22 campaign, including Lucas Williamson (MVC Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-MVC), Braden Norris (Third Team All-MVC), Chris Knight (MVC All-Newcomer Team), Aher Uguak (MVC All-Defensive Team) and Ryan Schwieger (MVC All-Bench Team).

“Amorrow is extremely well-respected and liked across the country for the job he does,” Valentine said. “I’ve gotten to know him as a fellow assistant coach over the years and I’ve had a tremendous respect watching what he’s been able to do from afar. In addition to being an extremely passionate and high-energy individual, who excels both as a recruiter and on-floor coach, Amorrow is elite at building relationships. He is a future head coach and rising star in this profession, who will continue to build and sustain our culture. I am thrilled to welcome him and his wife, Michelle, to the Loyola family.”

In three seasons at South Alabama, Morgan helped the Jaguars to 54 total wins, including a 20-11 ledger in 2019-20. Morgan’s tutelage allowed guard Michael Flowers to earn Sun Belt Conference Newcomer of the Year and first team all-league accolades in 2020-21.

Before his stint at South Alabama, Morgan was an assistant coach at Nicholls State University, where he helped the Colonels to a share of the 2017-18 Southland Conference title and their most wins (21) since 1995. He played a key role in Roddy Peters earning the Southland Conference’s Newcomer of the Year award.

Morgan got his coaching career started by spending one season at University of Illinois-Springfield in 2013-14 before moving on to Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio Texas, where he helped the Saints to a 25-6 record, the Red River Conference regular-season crown and a trip to the NAIA round of 16. Before heading to Nicholls State, Morgan enjoyed a two-year term as an assistant at Henderson State

During his playing career, Morgan, a native of Memphis, Tenn., was a two-time All-Big Sky honoree at Idaho State. One of only 19 players in Idaho State history to earn all-conference recognition more than once, he served as a team captain for three seasons and posted 16.6 points per game as a senior. Following his standout collegiate career, Morgan went on to a three-year professional basketball career in Europe and in his final season, led the SC Itzehoe Eagles in Germany in scoring.

A 2012 graduate of Idaho State, Morgan is also pursuing a master’s degree in sport management from Henderson State.

Morgan is married to the former Michelle Bailey.
