Ramblers Rally to 4-2 Victory in Series Closer

CHICAGO -- Loyola Chicago rallied to a 4-2 win against Saint Louis in the series closer on Sunday, March 22. Junior infielder Nat Lesnicki racked up a career-high four hits to help lead the Ramblers past the Billikens and junior pitcher Brooke Steinhorst (2-5) earned the win for Loyola, pitching seven innings, giving up two unearned runs and five hits.

The Ramblers are now 12-16 overall and 4-2 in Atlantic 10 play.

Coach Quote: Alicia Abbott
"Nat [Lesnicki] was absolutely a catalyst at the plate, with four 4-for-4 days, never to be spat on in any capacity. Defensively, we absolutely have to clean things up, but we responded well when things didn't go our way. Now it's how do we shift the mindset from 'it's about me',to 'it's about how do we do this together?' That's a big step forward for us this week, but we'll take the win anyway we can get it."

How It Happened
Trailing 2-0, the Ramblers first put their first runs on the board in the third inning as Lesnick hit a RBI single to score freshman Megan Piotrowski from second base. Loyola tied the score, 2-2, in the next frame as Lesnicki recorded her second of three RBIs on the day. Rookie Mackenzie Patterson notched her career-first RBI to allow Loyola a 3-2 lead.

The Ramblers held the Billikens without another run before getting back in on the action. Loyola scored once more on another RBI single off the bat of Lesnicki to score Piotrowski again and take the 4-2 victory.

That 2-2 tie turned into a 3-2 Loyola Chicago lead in the fifth. The Ramblers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Patterson.

Loyola Chicago held the Billikens without a run before their offense got back in action the next inning. The Ramblers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Lesnicki, bringing the Loyola Chicago advantage to 4-2. The score remained 4-2 for the rest of the game, as the Ramblers held on for the win.
