Mobley Drops Season-High 23, Vaughn Records Double-Double as Ramblers Push Past VCU

Loyola uses dominant fourth quarter to secure 66-55 home victory

CHICAGO - Alexus Mobley scored a season-high 23 points and Brooklyn Vaughn recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds as Loyola Chicago rallied for a 66-55 win over VCU on Saturday afternoon at Gentile Arena.

"We're trying to find some consistency," said Head Coach Allison Guth. "We weren't pleased with our first-quarter performance — we struggled to get stops, gave up too many offensive rebounds and didn't score well. But you have to give credit to this group and the way they continue to fight together to put us in a position to win a game like this,"

On a six-game win streak, the Ramblers (12-11, 8-4 A-10) outscored the Rams 25-10 in the fourth quarter to erase a four-point deficit and secure their eighth win in the last nine games. Loyola placed three players in double figures, with Rosalie Mercille adding 10 points off the bench.

Mobley shot 11-for-20 from the field and added five rebounds and two steals, while Vaughn controlled the glass with a game-high 11 rebounds to go with three steals. Alexa Kinas directed the offense, tying her career-high six assists as Loyola finished with 19 assists on 26 made field goals.

"I thought Alexus Mobley was locked in from the first play to the last, playing to her strengths, staying aggressive and getting downhill. And having Brooklyn Vaughn back in the lineup gave us an early surge with her defense. For her to grab 11 rebounds in this game was absolutely huge for us."

The Ramblers held VCU to 39.7 percent shooting and just 3-for-18 (16.7 percent) from 3-point range, while forcing 23 turnovers. Loyola also limited VCU leading scorer Katarina Knezevic to 5-for-20 shooting.

How it Happened
Loyola opened the game on a 6-0 run, capped by a Vaughn layup, but VCU responded to take a 16-9 lead after one quarter.

The Rams extended their advantage to 22-11 early in the second before Loyola answered with a 7-0 burst to pull within four. The Ramblers continued to chip away and trailed just 29-25 at halftime.

VCU pushed its lead to as many as nine in the third quarter and led 45-36 before Loyola closed the period on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a Mercille 3-pointer, to make it 45-41 entering the fourth.

Loyola then seized control in the final quarter. The Ramblers used a decisive 12-0 run, finished by a Kira Chivers layup, to take a 57-49 lead with 2:42 remaining. Loyola shot 9-for-14 (64.3 percent) in the fourth quarter and outscored VCU 25-10 to pull away for the 66-55 victory.
