CHICAGO, Ill. -- Loyola Chicago took care of business in three sets (25-22, 25-19, 25-23) to defeat Rockhurst on Saturday, Feb. 14 at home at in Gentile Arena. The non-conference victory moved the Ramblers to 8-4 overall. Loyola's offense was paced by outsides Josh Schellinger and Daniel Fabikovic, who each finished with double-digit kills. Senior libero JJ sowa led the Ramblers defensively behind 10 digs.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Ramblers took control of the set-one lead at 3-2 and held the lead the rest of the way to win it 25-22. Loyola led by as many as six points at 14-8 before closing out the set, collecting 16 kills in the set.
SET 2 | Loyola won the second set 25-19 to quickly grab a 2-0 lead. The Ramblers took the set with the help of a strong performance on the attacking side, putting together a .345 attack percentage with another 16 kills in the set. The Ramblers opened up a 21-14 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there.
SET 3 | The Ramblers persevered in a back-and-forth set to win it 25-23 and finish off the match. There were four lead changes and 11 tied scores; neither team opened up a lead of more than four points along the way. Loyola's offense got a boost from three aces in the set, two from Tyler Howard.
