Deywilk Tavarez scored his 1,000
th career point for the Ramblers Tuesday night in Loyola's 85-64 loss to Saint Joseph's. He finished with 12 points for the Ramblers and has 210 points and counting in the Maroon & Gold.
Loyola falls to 5-17 overall and 1-8 in A-10 play.
How It Happened
The Hawks set the pace early Tuesday night, scoring the first five points of the game in the opening 23 seconds.
Miles Rubin got Loyola on the board with a hook shot inside, but Saint Joseph's kept the foot on the gas and got ahead 18-7 by the 14-34 media timeout with the help of a 9-0 run. The Hawks pushed the lead to 17 before Tavarez sparked a 6-0 stretch for the Rambler with his 1,000
th career point.
Loyola would get within 11 by the 6:48 mark on a three-pointer from
Joshua Ola-Joseph, but Saint Joseph's followed up with a 14-0 run that put the Hawks up 25. Saint Joseph's led at the break, 51-24.
After a 6-0 run to open the second half, the Hawks took their largest lead of the game at 33 with 18:21 to play. Saint Joseph's held on to at least 25-point lead until the Ramblers used 12 unanswered points to cut it down to 17 with just under four to go. Tavarez and
Justin Moore had threes during that stretch. Seventeen was the closest Loyola could get, and Saint Joseph's won, 85-64.
