Loyola Falls Short vs. San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO – Loyola Chicago opened the road trip against San Francisco and fell 85-71 at the Chase Center Wednesday night. Xavier Amos led the Ramblers for the second straight game with 17 points. He added a season and team-high seven rebounds.

Loyola falls to 3-9 overall.

"Our intensity wasn't where it needed to be in the first half and the second half had a lot of mental errors," said head coach Drew Valentine. "That said, I have to give the guys credit. They found a way to compete and even when San Francisco went on runs, I thought we responded better than we have some other times this season. Losing is never positive, but we took some positive steps today."

How It Happened
Miles Rubin struck first Wednesday night in a back-and-forth opening four minutes. The Dons gained some separation with a 7-0 run to go up by nine by the 15-minute mark. San Francisco's lead grew to 12 two minutes later. Xavier Amos started to heat up, scoring four unanswered points for the Ramblers. He traded threes with USF on the next two possession to keep Loyola within seven.

Seven was the closest Loyola got for the remainder of the first half. David Fuchs pushed USF's lead to 13 twice by the 3:57 mark, while Amos drove in with a little over a minute to go, cutting the lead back down to 10. The Dons would get a three to close the half and go up by their largest lead yet at the break, 50-36.

San Francisco opened the second on an 8-0 run to grow their lead to 22 less than three minutes into the action. The Ramblers began chipping away at the Dons with an 11-4 run. Deywilk Tavarez's three with 12:29 to play cut the lead down to 14.

Justin Moore, Joshua Ola-Joseph, and Caleb Reese got in on the scoring down the stretch, but the Dons maintained a double-digit lead to win, 85-71.
