Ramblers Sweep Dukes Friday Night

CHICAGO, Ill. - Loyola Chicago earned its fifth with in conference play with a quick sweep over Duquesne Friday night. The Ramblers took the first two sets 25-17 and clinched the match with a 25-20 win in set three. Kaitlyn Burke led with 12 kills.

The victory moved the Ramblers' record to 8-10 overall and 5-1 in A-10 action.

The Ramblers honored the late Sister Jean ahead of the match by wearing shirts that celebrated her 106th birthday back in August and a moment of silence.

"Tonight was bigger than volleyball," said head coach Amanda Berkley. "We talked with the team when we found out the news and knew we wanted to honor her tonight. It's a sad day for Loyola, but I am really proud of the team for fighting and getting the win to honor her legacy. The team played really well as a group and it was one of our best passing games of the season. We had some really good moments and a lot of positive takeaways from tonight's match."

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Ramblers grabbed control of the set-one lead at 3-2 and never looked back to win 25-17. Loyola opened up its biggest lead, eight points, to finish off the set. Burke tallied five of her kills in the first set with Ann Marie Remmes added four. 

SET 2 | Loyola took the second set 25-17 to promptly grab a 2-0 lead. The Ramblers took the set thanks to a strong performance on the attacking end. Loyola registered a .303 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set win. Burke had another five kills while Avary DeBlieck helped the Ramblers with three blocks. The Ramblers ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza.

SET 3 | Loyola took set three to finish the match in a 3-0 sweep. Loyola took the lead for good at 17-16 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Ramblers took over in the second half of the stanza. Loyola's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Duquesne attacks. Five Ramblers registered at least two kills each.

Game Notes

  • Sam Falk had a match-high two aces and 15 digs in the win.
  • Deblieck had a match-high seven blocks.
  • Burke had a match-high 12 kills for Loyola Chicago.
  • Loyola attackers were helped by a match-high 32 assists from Emma Henry.
