CHICAGO – In the 68th minute, under the lights at Hoyne Field, senior middie
Jaimee Cibulka scored bar down off an assist from freshman forward
Jocelyn Leigh to mark Loyola Chicago's first victory and point ever against Dayton on Thursday, Sept. 19.
"When you look at a player like
Jaimee Cibulka, she's put her 110 percent blood, sweat and tears into this program for the last four years, and to see her have that moment was special," said head coach
Angela Staveskie. "Every opponent is going to give us their best game, and we got to bring it to them. I'm really proud of our group and want to celebrate Jaimee in that moment because that's a heck of a moment. She's worked really hard for that."
The Ramblers are now 6-2-1 overall and 1-0 in A-10 play while remaining undefeated at home.
How It Happened
The first half was dominated by Dayton's attack who had five corner kicks and took three shots, one on target saved by A-10 Rookie of the Week
Allison Deardorff.
Loyola added three shots toward the end of the half to open up the game, one from
Maggie Schmidt three minutes after she subbed on and a back-to-back on-frame pair from
Zoe Hevey, one blocked then another saved by Flyers keeper Batoul Reda.
It was the Ramblers' turn to take possession for most of the second half, taking two shots and shutting out three attempts from Dayton. Leigh passed the ball off to Cibulka outside the 18-yard and the captain settled the ball for the score, her first of the season.
