Chicago – Taylor Harrison scored her first goal of the season and Allison Deardorff made five saves to help Loyola Chicago shut out Bowling Green 1-0 on Sunday, Sept. 1 in the Alopecia Awareness match.
"The first 15 minutes we weren't really playing Loyola soccer, but we recognized it and made some changes, and the players responded well. When we play together, and we're connected as a group, good things happen," said head coach Angela Staveskie.
The Ramblers are now 3-1-1 overall and undefeated at home.
How It Happened
It was a scoreless first half that saw five corner kicks, six shots from each team and two saves from Ramblers' goalkeeper Allison Deardorff.
Halfway through the first 45 minutes, senior middie Jaimee Cibulka fielded a corner kick to freshman forward Jocelyn Leigh. Leigh kicked a short pass back to her freshman counterpart Olivia Anderson who chipped the ball into the goal box where Harrison attempted her first shot, a header saved by Falcons' goalkeeper Madison Vukas.
Loyola thought they scored after sophomore forward Zoe Hevey ripped a shot that found the back of the net but was recalled due to an offsides penalty. Leigh took two more shots to close out the first half.
The Ramblers erupted 10 minutes into the second half, dominating possession in their attacking third. Olivia Rhodes threw in the ball, received by Hevey who made a beautiful cross to Harrison to tap into the goal for her first score of the season.
