Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Loyola Chicago Falls 3-0 at Wisconsin

Ramblers see first loss of the season ahead of Sunday’s Alopecia Awareness game.

Madison, Wis. – The Ramblers played 80 minutes of brilliant soccer against the Badgers before the Big Ten team scored three goals in five minutes to blank Loyola Chicago 3-0.

"Our first half was brilliant, on both sides of the ball. I think offensively we took care of it, defensively, we were strong and solid. There were some nervy moments in front of both goals, and I thought in the first half we had some more dangerous looks," said head coach Angela Staveskie. "I think in the second half we just lost our ways a little bit. I talked to the team about not letting one game define you, whether you win or lose. This was a great test against a very good team."

The Ramblers are now 2-1-1 after their first loss of the season.

How It Happened
The Badgers had an early corner kick right into the box, swiftly caught by goalkeeper Allison Deardorff who then quickly found sophomore forward Zoe Hevey. On a breakaway, Hevey shredded Wisconsin's midfield and backlines before finally being tackled just outside the goal box. Wisconsin regained possession and talented shooter Ashley Martinez tried to get a shot off, prevented by Loyola's defense and cleared by Ramblers captain Alaina Abel.

Martinez followed up with an attempted top shelf shot which Deardorff snagged for her first save of the game. She kickstarted a downfield run for the Ramblers, picked up by forward Emily Rossi who set up a beautiful pass inside the box to Hevey for her first shot of the night.  Freshman forward Jocelyn Leigh took a wide shot and senior defender Ava Metaj ripped one to the top shelf, saved by Badgers goalkeeper Drew Stover, to close out the first half.

In the second half, the Ramblers opened with a corner kick quickly followed by another one at the Badgers offensive end. Abel and freshman defender Roos van Roekel each took a shot, saved by Stover. Wisconsin added three more shots before a flurry of goals. Tuscany Khachab attempted a shot blocked by Deardorff's body slide then finished by Aryssa Marht, Badgers team leader in points and goals.

Khachab took another shot, saved by Deardorff. Then Marht ripped a shot, blocked again by Deardorff then kicked out by Abel before the Badger grabbed her own rebound for the brace. One minute later Adee Boer put away the last goal off an assist from Maddie Ishaug.

"There's always something to learn from a win, a tie or a loss. We always move forward, we learn from it and move forward," said Staveskie.
