Chicago – Loyola Chicago shut out DePaul, 1-0, in front of a record-breaking crowd of 1,178 fans at Hoyne Field on Sunday, Aug. 25. The Ramblers are now 2-0-1 and undefeated at home.
"Our goal from the start is taking everything one day at a time, one moment at a time and leaning into one another. It starts with being where your feet are and appreciating the moment, and they're doing just that. They're leaning into that," said head coach Angela Staveskie. "Tonight's about enjoying it with their families, and tomorrow is about recovery."
How It Happened
Sophomore forward Zoe Hevey got a shot off less than one minute after kickoff and set the tone for the rest of the match with the Ramblers outshooting the Blue Demons 12-3. Hevey took her second shot of the night and defender Olivia Rhodes snagged the rebound for a shot off target.
Freshman forward Jocelyn Leigh added another shot for Loyola and the first half closed out with a Ramblers corner kick.
The second half saw more action, starting with a shot from senior middie Taylor Harrison. Soon after, Briley Hill took the first shot of the night for DePaul which was blocked by a dive from goalkeeper Allison Deardorff then kicked up field by freshman defender Roos van Roekel.
The Blue Demons had another unsuccessful shot on goal saved by Deardorff for her second and final save of the match.
Hevey attempted two more shots then overcame three defenders to find the bottom right corner of the net and secure the win for Loyola.
