Ramblers Force Draw with Purdue off Leigh’s Goal

Leigh scores at the 74th minute to secure draw.

West Lafayette, Ind. – Loyola Chicago is coming home with a 1-1 draw against Purdue after a late goal by freshman forward Jocelyn Leigh and a gritty performance from goalkeeper Allison Deardorff, supported by her back line.

"We're really proud of our teams' effort tonight. We tightened some areas up defensively in the second half and continued to play Rambler soccer," said head coach Angela Staveskie. "We got tougher as the game went on, and our belief never wavered. We will learn lessons from this game and continue to move forward together."

The Ramblers are now 1-0-1.

How It Happened
Redshirt freshman Emily Rossi kickstarted the Ramblers with a shot on goal two and half minutes into the first half, saved by Purdue fifth-year keeper Claire Wyville. Freshman defender Roos van Roekel fired off another shot on goal, followed by a blocked shot from Ava Metaj eight seconds later.

Purdue responded with a shot on goal from junior forward Kayla Budish, saved by Allison Deardorff, another Rambler redshirt freshman. Budish was successful on her second attempt, putting Purdue on the board off an assist from senior forward Gracie Dunaway.

The Ramblers shut out the Boilermakers for the rest of the half, and the rest of the match, with Deardorff recording four total saves for a season and career high.

The second half saw four Purdue corner kicks and was scoreless until Leigh's goal at the 74th minute. Sophomore forward Julia Liguore took possession in the Ramblers' defensive third and hit a short pass to senior middie Jaimee Cibulka who kicked off the run for Leigh.

Leigh gained control across the 50-yard line and beat two defenders before going head-to-head with Wyville then finding the bottom right corner of the net to even the score and close out the game.
