Loyola Chicago Falls in Regular Season Finale at George Washington, 50-43

Loyola looks ahead to the A-10 Tournament next week

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Loyola University Chicago women's basketball team lost its final regular season game, 50-43, to George Washington Saturday afternoon on the road. Alyssa Fisher scored a team-high 13 points while Sitori Tanin led on the glass with seven rebounds.

Loyola Chicago ends the 2023-24 regular season with a 14-15 overall record and an 8-10 mark in league play. The squad now turns its attention to the Atlantic 10 Tournament next week.

"We were dismal on both ends of the floor today," said Loyola head coach Allison Guth after the loss. "We didn't play true to our scout, what we could defend, and what we could take GW out of - in terms of their comfort. Their players made plays, their scores scored, their rebounders rebounded, and we didn't do anything to deter those things on the floor."

How it Happened
Emma Nolan, who started her fifth game of the season, got things going with a 3-pointer from Ali Berg. From the 5:15 mark to 3:19, the Ramblers used an 8-2 run to claim a 12-10 edge over George Washington (13-17, 6-12 Atlantic 10). Fisher followed with a trey after Kira Chivers dished her the rock for a wide-open look. Aaliyah Moore ended the frame with a layup, helping Loyola hold a 17-15 lead after the first 10 minutes.

The Revolutionaries went on a 12-2 run in the second quarter and took a 27-19 advantage over Loyola with 2:22 left in the half. However, Loyola Chicago ended the half on a 7-0 run, bringing itself within one point of GW. Sam Galanopoulos started the sprint with a triple. Then, on the inbound, Fisher swiped the ball away from George Washington and cashed in an easy layup. Fisher sunk two more at the free throw line to make the score 27-26, GW, as the two teams went into the lock room.

An 8-0 Loyola stretch, which included threes from Galanopoulos and Berg, plus Fisher's layup, helped the Maroon and Gold take 34-31 lead. But the Revolutionaries erased their deficit quickly with an 11-0 run.

In the fourth quarter, the 'Blers had GW within three points (42-39) after Galanopoulos' 3-pointer, but the home team ended the final 4:30 on an 8-4 run to seal its 50-43 win.
