ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Loyola Chicago fell on the road at St. Bonaventure Tuesday night, 79-64. The Ramblers were led by
Philip Alston and
Braden Norris who scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.
With the loss, Loyola falls to 20-8 overall, 12-3 in Atlantic 10 play.
"I thought we had good intentions today," said head coach
Drew Valentine. "Today was similar to our losses earlier this year. Just a lack of competitive discipline that put us in a position where we were scratching and clawing from behind. A bunch of guys didn't have it tonight and that's okay. We're not going to have it every night and not play perfect every night."
How It Happened
Loyola opened the game on a 9-2 lead with two straight three-pointers from
Sheldon Edwards and
Braden Norris. The Bonnies weren't phased, responding with 14 unanswered over a stretch of 3:31. Daryl Banks captured the first lead for St. Bonaventure at the line with 12:17 on the clock.
Greg Dolan and
Patrick Mwamba came off the bench for consecutive buckets, cutting the lead down to five with under seven minutes to go, but turnovers continued to plague the Rambler offense as 13 in the first half led to 19 points for the Bonnies.
A late 10-0 run helped SBU take its largest lead at 16 at the 1:24 mark, and the Bonnies held on 41-26 at the half.
Philip Alston went up for two dunks to open the second looking for a breakthrough for the Ramblers. To follow, Loyola went bucket for bucket with the Bonnies who were still holding a 14-point edge by the 16-minute media timeout.
Jayden Dawson's three at the 14:06 mark got Loyola within 11, but over the next five minutes, the Bonnies went on a 13-3 run, taking a 21-point lead on a three-point play from Moses Flowers with just over nine to go.
The Ramblers chipped away and got within 12 of the Bonnies on a three from Dawson at 4:51. It was the closest Loyola could get and fell, 79-64.
