Loyola Chicago Picks Up First Win of 2023

Ansley Cryan's game winner came in the 74th minute

TOLEDO, Ohio (August 25, 2023) – The Loyola Chicago women's soccer team picked up their first win of the 2023 season Friday morning. Ansley Cryan scored her first career goal as a Rambler to help Loyola defeat the Toledo Rockets, 2-1.

With the win, the Ramblers improved to 1-2-0 on the year.

"I am proud of the team today for grinding out a win on the road against a very organized Toledo team," said head coach Barry Bimbi. "We made a few adjustments at halftime for the girls to focus on to help us in possession and the final third. They did very well implementing those concepts in the second 45."

How It Happened
Loyola's offensive intensity was immediate out of the kickoff Friday morning. In the first five minutes, the Ramblers tallied two shots. It only took a few more minutes for the ball to find the back of the net with the help of Taylor Harrison. Her second goal of the season made it an early 1-0 lead for Loyola in the 10th minute.

Zoe Hevey and Harrison each tallied near misses before the first half ended, and Loyola held on to the edge at halftime.

Toledo's halftime adjustments were put to work in the opening 70 seconds. The Rockets evened the match at the 46:08 mark with a strike from Emily Mann. They nearly took the lead two minute later, but Naya Lipkens got her hands on Olivia Dault's shot to stop it.

Over the next 20 minutes, Maggie Schmidt and Harrison made the Toledo defense work but couldn't find an opening. Ansley Cryan then found the hole in the 76th minute. Jaimee Cibulka played the ball to Cryan who put it away for the game winner.

Loyola took home its first win of the year, 2-1.
