BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (August 27, 2023) – Two first-half goals from Bowling Green was enough to secure a shutout against Loyola Chicago Women's Soccer. The Falcons beat the Ramblers 2-0 Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, Loyola falls to 1-3-0 overall.
"Disappointing result on the road, but credit to Bowling Green for finishing their chances in the first half," said head coach
Barry Bimbi. "We had very good stretches of possession, switching the point of attack, but our final pass or cross was never put in a dangerous area. We will look to sharpen up this week heading into our game against Western Illinois."
How It Happened
The Falcons game winner came on the very first strike just 7:41 into the action. Brynn Gardner downed a cross in the box and used one touch to put the ball low left past
Naya Lipkens in goal. The Falcons took a quick 1-0 lead.
Madeleine Barone attempted to even the score a minute later with Loyola's first shot attempt, but she was wide of the target.
In the 25
th minute, the Falcons netted their second attempt of the match. Katie Cox fired high right to double the lead, 2-0. They held on to the lead at the break despite a late effort from
Skyler Bierker in the 45
th minute.
Four of Loyola's five shots on goal came in the second half.
Zoe Hevey registered the first in the 47
th minute follow by a second in the 59
th. The Ramblers couldn't find a hole in the Falcon defense on any of the four second-half attempts, and Bowling Green went on to win 2-0.
