Ramblers Tripped Up on the Road, Tanin Posts Fourth Double-Double

Loyola fell 61-50 at George Washington Saturday afternoon

CHICAGO (February 18, 2023)

In Short…
Loyola (6-21, 1-13 A-10) fell 61-50 to George Washington (17-10, 9-5 A-10) Saturday afternoon inside the Smith Center. Sitori Tanin produced her third double-double in four games to lead the Ramblers with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Maya Chandler scored 14 points while Anna Brown chipped in with 11.

How it Happened
Loyola never led after a slow start on the offensive end, falling behind 10-0 at the start of the contest with five turnovers before the first media timeout. George Washington would lead 14-4 after one quarter of play and moved ahead by as much as 12 in the second quarter, until Loyola got going behind Chandler's spark off the bench.

Chandler scored six consecutive points which followed by back-to-back layups from Tanin pulled the Ramblers within four at 21-17.

The Colonials started 6 of 7 from three-point range and rode the hot long-distance shooting back out to a 10-point lead four minutes before halftime. But the Ramblers battled back, as Brown's trey right before the buzzer – Loyola's first of the game after missing eight straight – put the Colonials' lead at six at the break, 30-24.

Loyola shot 56% in the second quarter after going 2 for 12 (17%) in the opening period.

After halftime, a corner three from Brown on the opening possession made it a three-point game but that would end up as close as the Ramblers would get on the day.

George Washington answered with a 14-0 run to move ahead by 17 points midway through the third quarter.

A conventional three-point play by Mallory Ramage made it a 10-point deficit, and Tanin's layup with 6:16 remaining in the game made the score 54-44 but Loyola couldn't close the gap.
