In Short…
Loyola (6-21, 1-13 A-10) fell 61-50 to George Washington (17-10, 9-5 A-10) Saturday afternoon inside the Smith Center.
Sitori Tanin produced her third double-double in four games to lead the Ramblers with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Maya Chandler scored 14 points while
Anna Brown chipped in with 11.
Â
How it Happened
Loyola never led after a slow start on the offensive end, falling behind 10-0 at the start of the contest with five turnovers before the first media timeout. George Washington would lead 14-4 after one quarter of play and moved ahead by as much as 12 in the second quarter, until Loyola got going behind Chandler's spark off the bench.
Â
Chandler scored six consecutive points which followed by back-to-back layups from Tanin pulled the Ramblers within four at 21-17.
Â
The Colonials started 6 of 7 from three-point range and rode the hot long-distance shooting back out to a 10-point lead four minutes before halftime. But the Ramblers battled back, as Brown's trey right before the buzzer – Loyola's first of the game after missing eight straight – put the Colonials' lead at six at the break, 30-24.
Â
Loyola shot 56% in the second quarter after going 2 for 12 (17%) in the opening period.
Â
After halftime, a corner three from Brown on the opening possession made it a three-point game but that would end up as close as the Ramblers would get on the day.
Â
George Washington answered with a 14-0 run to move ahead by 17 points midway through the third quarter.
Â
A conventional three-point play by
Mallory Ramage made it a 10-point deficit, and Tanin's layup with 6:16 remaining in the game made the score 54-44 but Loyola couldn't close the gap.
