Loyola Looks To Bounce Back Against Boise State Friday

Ramblers, Broncos to meet for only the third time

CHICAGO (November 18, 2022) - Coming off its first loss of the season on Thursday night, Loyola University Chicago (2-1) will look to rebound on Friday when it takes on Boise State in the consolation round of the Myrtle Beach Invitational.  The Ramblers and Broncos will tip-off at 8:30 p.m (CT) inside the HTC Arena in Conway, S.C.

Last Time Out
Loyola committed 22 turnovers as Tulsa used a second-half outburst to race by the Ramblers, 85-66, in Thursday's quarterfinal-round finale at the HTC Center.  For the second time in as many games, Philip Alston paced the attack for the Maroon & Gold, putting up 18 points.  The Ramblers received a lift from Marquise Kennedy, who scored nine points in his 2022-23 season debut, while Braden Norris chipped in eight points and dished out a team-high four assists.

Loyola/Boise State – The Series
Friday's matchup will mark just the third meeting between Loyola and Boise State on the hardwood, a series that the two teams have split.

The Ramblers and Broncos first met in the championship game of the 2014 Continental Tires Las Vegas Classic, where Christian Thomas put up 13 of his game-high 17 points in the second half as the Maroon & Gold grinded out a 48-45 win.  Boise State exacted a small measure of revenge when Loyola visited ExtraMile Arena during the 2017-18 campaign, dealing the Ramblers an 87-53 defeat. Aundre Jackson (14 points) and Clayton Custer (12 points) led Loyola in the defeat.

Scouting Boise State
Boise State dropped a 54-42 decision to Charlotte in Thursday's quarterfinal round, a defeat which saw the Broncos slip to 1-2 overall.  Veteran head coach Leon Rice's crew was tabbed third in the Mountain West Preseason Poll after finishing 27-8 (15-3 MW) in 2021-22, winning the Mountain West Tournament Championship en route to advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

The trio of Marcus Shaver, Jr. (13.7 ppg), Tyson Degenhart (13.3 ppg), and Max Rice (13.3 ppg) all average double figures in scoring for Boise State.  Shaver is coming off a junior campaign in which he took home Second Team All-Mountain West accolades after putting up 13.3 ppg, while Degenhart enjoyed a breakout freshman campaign, adding 9.9 ppg as he took home Mountain West Freshman of the Year honors.

Up Next
Following an off day on Saturday, Loyola will conclude play at the Myrtle Beach Invitational when it takes on either No. 24 Texas A&M or Colorado on Sunday in Conway, S.C.
