Cold-Shooting Loyola Falls To Boise State, 70-48

Ramblers wrap up Myrtle Beach Invitational on Sunday versus No. 24 Texas A&M

CONWAY, S.C. (November 18, 2022)

In Short…
Loyola University Chicago (2-2) shot just 32 percent (17-for-53) from the field as it fell by a final count of 70-48 to Boise State (2-2) in the consolation round of the Myrtle Beach Invitational this evening at the HTC Center in Conway, S.C.

How It Happened
Saint Thomas looked to provide an early spark for the Maroon & Gold, knocking down a corner triple 15 seconds in to stake Loyola to a quick 3-0 lead.  Boise State responded with offensive fireworks of its own, hitting on each of its first five attempts from the field as it built a 12-9 edge on a Chibuzo Agbo mid-range bucket at the 16:26 mark.

Loyola continued to fire away from distance, with a Sheldon Edwards trey tying the game at 14-14 before Philip Alston drilled a corner three of his own to put the Ramblers on top, 17-16, with 11:09 to play in the half.

Jayden Dawson added two threes over a four-minute span, the last of which knotted things up at 23-23 with 3:30 remaining.  Boise State finished the half with a flourish, retaking the lead, 28-25, on a conventional three-point play by Max Rice ahead of a deep three in the closing minute from Agbo that sent the Broncos into the locker room with a 31-26 edge.

Alston came out of the break attacking, hammering home a thunderous dunk with less than a minute gone to make it a one-possession game, 31-28.

Following a bucket inside by Jacob Hutson that trimmed the margin to 39-34 with 15:17 remaining, Boise State put the game out of reach with a dominant 21-3 surge, expanding its lead to 60-37 on a Marcus Shaver, Jr. fastbreak score, as the Broncos went on to book their spot in Sunday's fifth-place game.
