CHICAGO (October 30, 2022)
In Short…
Loyola University Chicago jumped out to an early double-digit lead and never looked back, downing visiting Calumet College, 82-57, in the Ramblers' lone exhibition contest this afternoon inside Gentile Arena.
How It Happened
Philip Alston got Loyola off and running, putting up six of the Maroon & Gold's first eight points as the Ramblers raced out to an 8-0 lead with three minutes gone. Alston added a thunderous dunk before a
Jalen Quinn steal and score stretched the margin into double figures, 12-2.
With the lead sitting at 12-4 following an Okeitho Marshall bucket,
Braden Norris connected from beyond the three-point arc, sparking a 15-0 Loyola surge that saw the gap balloon to 27-4 at the 10:24 mark. Calumet chipped its deficit back under 20 points on a handful of occasions, but never threatened as Loyola carried a 43-23 lead into halftime.
Both teams struggled to find a rhythm in a second half that featured a combined 32 team fouls. An old-fashioned three-point play from Quinn was followed by a
Bryce Golden layup that made it 58-34 with 12:30 remaining.
Another aggressive take by Quinn gave Loyola its largest lead of the afternoon, 75-47, with 4:34 to play as the Ramblers coasted to the final horn.
