In Short…
The Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team used a season-best showing on the offensive end to roll past Western Michigan, 4-1, this afternoon at the WMU Soccer Complex in Kalamazoo, Mich. Today's victory brings the Ramblers back to the .500 mark on the year at 4-4-1, while the Broncos slide to 2-5-0.
Coach Barry Bimbi's Thoughts…
"It was nice to get out to a comfortable lead in the first half, and have a professional approach to the second half to get a victory against a quality team on the road. We will continue to work on sharpening up the little things heading into Sunday and conference play next week."
How It Happened
Freshman goalkeeper
Grace Droessler was called into action 11 minutes in, denying Reagan Wisser to keep things scoreless early on. Senior
Ari Banks came close to putting the Maroon & Gold on top in the 16
th minute, only to see her shot ring off the post.
Senior
Sienna Cruz kicked off a red-hot stretch that saw the Ramblers find the back of the net three times over a 7:59 span when she cleaned up the rebound off an attempt by junior
Katharine Stephens to stake Loyola to a 1-0 lead in the 19
th minute. Freshman
Madi Rosen added her first career goal just under five minutes later, curling in a corner kick at the far post to double the lead, 2-0. Graduate student
Simone Wark put an exclamation point on a dominant opening half for the visitors, firing home her second goal of the campaign in the 27
th minute to give the Ramblers a 3-0 at halftime.
Loyola kept its foot on the gas coming out of the intermission, with Banks forcing a stop out of recently inserted Western Michigan goalkeeper Hannah Sargent. A Bronco foul inside the 18-yard box in the 53
rd minute gave Loyola an opportunity from the penalty spot. Wark made the most of it, slotting home to up the margin to 4-0. The hosts drew a goal back in the 65
th minute, as Bailey Korhorn converted a penalty kick of her own, to trim the Loyola lead to 4-1, but that would be as close as Western Michigan would get, as Loyola closed out its second road victory in as many games.
Looking At The Numbers
