In Short…
Junior
Lindsey Hardiman found the back of the net with only 26 seconds remaining in the first overtime to seal a 1-0 victory for the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team over host Eastern Michigan this afternoon at Scicluna Field in Ypsilanti, Mich. Today's win, Loyola's third straight, sees the Ramblers close non-conference play at 5-4-1, while the Eagles fall to 1-5-2.
Coach Barry Bimbi's Thoughts…
"Today was a great way to end our non-conference schedule. Some days are tougher than others, but I'm proud of our team for how they kept pushing and found a way to finish the game."
How It Happened
Sophomore goalkeeper
Maddie Hausmann was called into action just seconds in, collecting Kristin Hullibarger's attempt. Loyola generated a pair of chances in the 13
th minute, with freshman
Megan Nemec and senior
Aleksa Tataryn both forcing stops out of Eastern Michigan goalkeeper Mabel Dunn.
The Ramblers continued to have the better of the chances as the half wore on, but were unable to best the Eagles' netminder as the two teams headed to the intermission knotted up at 0-0.
Hausmann again shined to open the second half, racking up three saves over the opening five minutes of play. Junior
Alyson Kobler and sophomore
Abby Swanson each tested Dunn in the frame's middle stages, with the Eagles' netminder again standing tall. A last-ditch try from Eastern Michigan's Amanda Cripps flew well high of Hausmann's crossbar, sending the game to overtime.
Both sides struggled to generate opportunities until the first extra session's closing minutes. After seeing the hosts' Peyton Davis fire wide of goal, graduate student
Simone Wark sent a ball into the 18-yard box that connected with Hardiman, who deposited her attempt past Dunn to cement Loyola's third win in as many games.
Looking At The Numbers
- Hardiman's goal was her first of the season and first game-winning tally of her career. It also came on the two-year anniversary of her first career goal against Evansville back on September 22, 2017.
- Wark, who added the assist on Hardiman's goal, closed the weekend with two goals and an assist to her name.
- Hausmann was tremendous in goal, finishing the afternoon with a career-high seven saves en route to a second-straight clean sheet.
