In Short…

How It Happened
Kansas wasted little time in taking control on a humid, rain-soaked afternoon in Lawrence. With just under four minutes gone, Katie McClure headed a cross from Ceri Holland across the face of goal to stake the Jayhawks to an early 1-0 edge. Freshman goalkeeper
Grace Droessler kept the deficit at one in the 16
th minute when she fought off Bri Amos' blast at her near post.
The Jayhawk attack caught fire as the first half wore on, finding the back of the net four times over the final 18:01 of the opening stanza. Katie Maierhofer doubled the hosts' lead in the 27
th minute, finishing off a McClure cross to make it 2-0 before Holland converted from the penalty spot 22 seconds later following a Rambler foul in the box, stretching the margin to 3-0.
After a Kathryn Castro one-time effort in the 35
th minute made it 4-0, Kailey Lane punctuated an impressive first half for Kansas, firing home the rebound off a Droessler stop with just under four minutes remaining to up the Jayhawks' lead to 5-0 at halftime.
Holland extended the Kansas lead to 6-0 in the 54
th minute, notching her second goal of the day as she headed in a corner kick from Ebba Costow. Loyola's top scoring opportunity of the afternoon fell to sophomore
Abby Swanson in the 67
th minute. The Downers Grove, Ill. product was on the receiving end of a corner kick from senior
Ari Banks, but saw her headed effort ring off the crossbar as Kansas closed out its second victory in as many games to open the young season.
