Ramblers Wrap Up Nonconference Play, Host Davidson Sunday

Loyola goes for its sixth consecutive win as it heads toward the open of Missouri Valley Conference action

CHICAGO (December 20, 2019) - Fresh off its 10th victory over a Power Conference foe in the Porter Moser era, Loyola returns home Sunday to close out the nonconference portion of its 2019-20 schedule as Davidson invades Gentile Arena. The Ramblers have won their last five outings, the longest streak since an unforgettable 14-game run in 2017-18 that ended with a trip to the NCAA Final Four in San Antonio. This is the first time the Ramblers have opened December with five straight wins since the 1991-92 season when they went a perfect 6-0 in the final month of the calendar year.

In Wednesday's victory over Vanderbilt, Cameron Krutwig recorded his first career triple-double, totaling 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, for what is believed to be the first triple-double in Loyola history.

Through games of December 19, Krutwig's triple-double was one of 11 in NCAA Division I play this season and only the second by a center (Luke Knapke of Toledo). Krutwig is the only center in the nation with a triple-double of the points-rebounds-assists variety in 2019-20.

Krutwig is the first Missouri Valley Conference center with a triple-double since Benoit Benjamin (Wichita State) in 1985. The 6-foot-9 center is also the first MVC center with a points-rebounds-assists triple-double since Terry Benton (Wichita State) in 1972.

Loyola – Davidson – The Series

Sunday's game is just the second meeting between the Ramblers and Wildcats and the first since December 28, 1973, when Davidson picked up a 98-82 decision at the Charlotte Invitational in Charlotte, N.C.

Loyola is 54-79 (.406) all time against current members of the Atlantic-10 Conference, and earlier this season knocked off Saint Joseph's, 85-68 at Gentile Arena. At one point, the Ramblers were conference mates with current A-10 programs Dayton, Duquesne, La Salle and Saint Louis.

Scouting Davidson

Davidson will be seeing its first action since December 10 when it defeated Coppin State, 88-52. The Wildcats have won three of their last four contests, including each of the last two, and are 1-1 in true road games in 2019-20.

The injury-riddled Wildcats have four players scoring in double figures, led by junior Kellan Grady, who is regarded as one of the top shooting guards in the nation, with 16.1 points per game. Jon Axel Gudmundsson, the 2019 Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year, pitches in 12.1 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 3.2 apg and shoots 41.3 percent (19-for-46) from three-point range.

Under the direction of Bob McKillop, who is in his 31st year at the school, Davidson is putting up 80.6 ppg in its five wins this season, but only 62.0 ppg in its five setbacks.
