CHICAGO (November 6, 2019) -Â Fresh off a convincing 82-48 victory over UC Davis in Tuesday's season opener, Loyola makes its first road trip of 2019-20 when it visits Furman Friday evening. The Ramblers, who have won their road opener in each of the last two seasons, will be looking to start a season with back-to-back wins for the sixth time under ninth-year head coach Porter Moser.Â
Center Cameron Krutwig nearly recorded a triple-double against UC Davis Tuesday night, finishing with 15 points, eight rebounds and a career-best 11 assists, to only one turnover. His 11 assists are the most by a Rambler since November 20, 2009, when Courtney Stanley doled out 11 helpers at Holy Cross.
Since the start of the 2017-18 season, the Ramblers are 14-11 (.560) in true road games, with a win at then-No. 5 Florida to their credit in 2017-18. Loyola is 27-11 (.711) in regular season nonconference play since the start of the 2016-17 campaign.
Loyola – Furman – The Series
This is the fourth meeting between Loyola and Furman and the Paladins, who hold a slim 2-1 edge in the series, won the only previous meeting between the teams in Greenville, 63-51, during Porter Moser's first season at Loyola in 2011-12.
In last year's meeting in game two of the season at Gentile Arena, Clay Mounce's dunk with 1.8 seconds remaining lifted Furman to a 60-58 victory.
Loyola is 2-3 all-time versus current members of the Southern Conference.
Scouting Furman
Furman opened the season with a 70-63 victory at Gardner-Webb Tuesday night behind 18 points and five rebounds from Noah Gurley.
Last season, the Paladins reached the National Invitation Tournament, falling to Wichita State in the opening round. Furman closed out the year with a 25-8 overall record, the most wins in program history. Over the last three campaigns, the Paladins are averaging 23.7 wins and have posted 20 or more victories in each of those seasons.
Jordan Lyons is the team's leading returning scorer from a year ago. Last season, the guard put up 16.2 points per contest and knocked down 105 three-point field goals.
