GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman (November 25, 2019) -Â Loyola will face Colorado State in the consolation round of the 2019 Cayman Islands Classic Tuesday morning. The Ramblers had a two-game win streak halted yesterday with a 66-55 loss to South Florida in the opening round of the tournament. Loyola has prevailed in 11 of its last 16 outings played at neutral sites.Â
Colorado State assistant coach JR Blount was a standout player at Loyola from 2005-09. A high-scoring guard, he totaled 1,603 points in his career and shares the Gentile Arena record for points in a game with 42 versus Rockhurst.
Loyola – Colorado State – The Series
Loyola and Colorado State are meeting for just the third time overall and the first since February 22, 1969, when the Ramblers earned a 75-64 victory in Chicago. Tuesday's matchup will be the first-ever neutral site meeting between the teams. The Rams captured the only other encounter, taking an 81-73 decision in Fort Collins, on January 6, 1968.
The Ramblers are 10-6 (.625) all-time versus current members of the Mountain West Conference.
Scouting Colorado State
Colorado State has dropped its last two outings, including a 78-70 decision in overtime to New Mexico State yesterday at the Cayman Islands Classic. In their three losses this year, the Rams are yielding 82.3 ppg, but in their wins, are permitting just 64.0 ppg.Â
Center Nico Carvacho leads Colorado State in both scoring and rebounding, with 15.3 ppg and 9.3 rpg, while connecting on 55 percent (33-for-60) of his field goal attempts. Freshman guard Isaiah Stevens adds 13.2 ppg and is hitting 50 percent (13-for-26) of his three-point tries.
