Box Score
In Short…
The Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team gave visiting No. 14/13 Oklahoma State all it could handle this afternoon at Loyola Soccer Park, ultimately falling by a final count of 2-0. Today's victory sees the Cowgirls move to 4-1-0, while the Ramblers fall to 3-3-0.
Coach Bimbi's Thoughts…
"I thought the performance was really good. We really believed throughout the game that we could get a result out of today. I was proud of the girls in the second half. We gave up the early goal off the corner kick and it would have been easy to pack it in but we didn't and that shows the character of the group."
How It Happened
Oklahoma State, looking to rebound off a loss to Illinois on Friday night, came out as the aggressors on a hot afternoon that saw temperatures approach 90 degrees. Marlo Zoller and Haley Woodard both had attempts blocked before junior goalkeeper
Kate Moran turned away Grace Yochum's headed effort in the eighth minute.
Zoller put the Cowgirls on the board just in front of the 20-minute mark. Woodard sent a cross into the box that found Zoller, who slid her attempt in at the far post from 12 yards out to give the visitors a 1-0 edge. The Ramblers looked to equalize, with senior
Jenna Szczesny and sophomore
Jenna Ross both misfiring in the ensuing minutes. Moran added a final stop in the half's waning seconds to keep the deficit at 1-0 heading to the intermission.
The Cowgirls wasted little time in doubling their lead in the second half. Following a leaping stop by freshman goalkeeper
Maddie Hausmann, who was inserted to begin the second half, Yochum finished off a Jaci Jones corner kick at the near post to make it 2-0 with just over four minutes gone. Hausmann responded well, turning away a Woodard blast at the hour mark.
Loyola began to hit its stride as the second half wore on. Senior
Madison Kimball forced a stop out of Hannah Warner, the Cowgirl netminder, in the 74
th minute. Szczesny came close finding an opener for the Maroon & Gold less than 10 minutes later, only to see her shot hit the far post. Junior
Madison Laudeman forced a final save out of Warner in the 88
th minute as Oklahoma State held on for a 2-0 win.
