In Short
Katie Kasubke's bases-loaded walk forced in the game's only run and
Kiley Jones pitched a complete game shutout as Loyola University Chicago (9-8) slipped past Maine, 1-0, this afternoon at the USF Tournament. With the win, Jones improved to 8-2 on the season.
How It Happened
Loyola squandered a golden opportunity to get on the board at the outset of the game, but atoned for it in the second inning.
Shannon McGee led off the top of the first with a triple to right field and walks by
Jordyn Cordell and
Allyson Ivey were sandwiched around a fly out. But, despite having the bases loaded with one out, the Ramblers came up empty.
Katie Polaski's two-out single to center ignited a Loyola rally in the top of the second, with the Ramblers loading the bags when McGee followed with a hit and Cordell was hit by a pitch. That brought Kasubke to the plate and the junior was able to work a walk from Molly Flowers to force in Polaski with the game's only run.
That single tally was all the support Jones would need as the righthander would allow just three hits over the final six innings to collect her eighth win of the young season.
A Look At The Numbers
- McGee finished with a pair of hits as she continues her solid work at the plate.
- Jones surrendered five hits and struck out three to improve to 8-2 on the season.
