Â
In Short
Aundre Jackson's layup with 3:09 remaining gave Loyola University Chicago (21-5, 11-3 MVC) the lead for good and it held on for a 75-71 victory over host Indiana State (11-15, 6-8 MVC) this afternoon at Hulman Center. The win allows Loyola to maintain a two-game lead in the Missouri Valley Conference race and is its fifth in the last six road contests.

Coach Moser's Thoughts
"This was a grit game on both ends. Every time (Jordan) Barnes and (Brenton) Scott shoot, you think it's going in, but I was really pleased that we made some plays down the stretch."
Â
How It Happened
Loyola got off to a 16-9 lead in the opening eight minutes, limiting Indiana State to just 3-of-12 shooting from the field. But, from that point forward, the Sycamores heated up from the field, hitting 9 of their final 16 field goal attempts in the period.
Â
The Ramblers, who led by as many as seven points in the first half, committed 10 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes and saw Indiana State put together a 9-2 run that erased Loyola's 21-14 advantage.
Â
When Jordan Barnes drained a pair of free throws in with 4:21 left in the first half, to give Indiana State the lead, it never relinquished that advantage the remainder of the period.
Â
A second-half team all season long, but especially of late, Loyola strung together a 12-2 run that featured threes from
Marques Townes and
Clayton Custer, to flip a six-point deficit into a 54-48 lead, but back-to-back threes from Jordan Barnes brought the Sycamores even in an thrilling second period.
Â
From that point, the game was a back-and-forth battle until Jackson's layup broke a 67-67 tie and put the Ramblers on top by a basket. After Indiana State closed within a point, at 70-69, Townes hit a jumper that stretched the lead to 72-69 with 39 seconds remaining and following a Sycamore turnover, Townes scored again, this time on a driving layup, to seal the outcome.
Â
A Look At The Numbers
- Five Ramblers scored in double figures led by Donte Ingram's 17 points, while Jackson added 15 off the bench.
- Custer pitched in 13 points and Townes tossed in 11 points.
- Cameron Krutwig tallied 10 points, six boards and three assists to round out a balanced Loyola attack, which shot 64 percent from the field in the second half.
- Barnes led Indiana State with 17 points.
