CHICAGO (December 17, 2018) -Â After snapping a mini two-game skid with an 80-49 pasting of Norfolk State Sunday, Loyola continues a busy week Tuesday night as it welcomes NCAA Division III rival Benedictine to Gentile Arena. The Ramblers have won 20 of their last 24 outings overall at home and 19 of their last 22 there versus nonconference opponents.
Seventy points has been the barometer for success for Loyola this season. When scoring 70 or more points, the Ramblers are 6-0 in 2018-19. Conversely, Loyola is 0-5 when scoring fewer than 70 points and is 0-3 when allowing 70 or more points.
In their last three matchups with non-Division I foes, the Ramblers are putting up 97.7 ppg and shooting 54.7 percent (110-for-201) from the field, averaging 10.3 three-pointers.
Loyola – Benedictine – The Series
Tuesday's game is just the second regular-season meeting between the Ramblers and Eagles and the first since November 27, 2004.Loyola emerged victorious in the only previous matchup between the teams, earning a 74-59 decision in Rogers Park thanks to 20 points off the bench from Majak Kou.
The Ramblers have won 11 straight contests against non-Division I opponents since an 86-79 setback versus Rockhurst to open the 2008-09 season.
Scouting Benedictine
Benedictine has won three of its last four outings, including each of its last two, and is coming off an 85-65 victory against Concordia Chicago Saturday. The Eagles are 2-4 on the road this season and have prevailed in two of their last three outings away from home.
Over the last pair of contests, Benedictine is averaging 85.5 ppg, shooting 48.2 percent (54-for-112) from the field, well above its season average of 41.9 percent. Junior forward Eric Grygo is the Eagles' go-to player and is accounting for team highs of 15.2 ppg and 10.7 rpg, while shooting an eye-popping 68.6 percent (59-for-86) from the field. Two other Eagles average 10 or more points - guards Michael Johnson (12.0 ppg) and Kenny Bogus (10.5 ppg).
