CHICAGO (November 8, 2018) –
Loyola University Chicago raises the curtain on its 2018-19 season on the road this Friday when it heads east to Youngstown, Ohio for a matchup with former Horizon League foe Youngstown State.  Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. (CT) from inside the Beeghly Center.

LOYOLA – YOUNGSTOWN STATE – THE SERIES
Friday's regular-season opener for the Ramblers will serve as the 29th meeting in the all-time series between Loyola and Youngstown State.  Loyola owns a healthy 21-7 edge in the series, having prevailed in 11 of the last 14 encounters.  When the two teams met last season at Gentile Arena, the Penguins used an 18-0 run in the first quarter to jump out to a sizeable lead en route to a 73-49 victory. Jessica Cerda paced Loyola in the victory with 11 points, while Kailyn Strawbridge joined her in double figures, chipping in 10 points.

MARCH OF THE PENGUINS
Youngstown State kicked off its 2018-19 season in thrilling fashion on Tuesday night, fending off Robert Morris, 69-59, at the Beeghly Center.  Sarah Cash finished with 16 points to lead a quartet of Penguins to reach double figures in scoring.  Sixth-year head coach John Barnes' team finished last season at the .500 mark, going 16-16 and qualifying for the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI), where they bowed out to Binghamton, 70-59, in the event's opening round.  Cash and teammate Sarah Olson were both voted as Preseason All-Horizon League selections for a Youngstown State team that was picked fourth in the league's preseason poll.  Cash averaged a team-high 11.6 points last season, while Olson, a 2017-18 Horizon League All-Freshman Team honoree, added 10.1 points per game and operated at a 37.5 percent clip from beyond the three-point arc.

UP NEXT
Loyola faces a quick turnaround as it returns to Gentile Arena on Monday evening to host Detroit Mercy. Tip-off against the Titans is scheduled for 7 p.m.
