Loyola Faces Tough Test At UIC In First True Road Game Of 2018-19

Ramblers seek their sixth straight win in the series with their former conference mate

Loyola goes for its 10th victory in the last 11 contests versus in-state rivals when it plays its first true road game of 2018-19 by traveling to face former conference mate UIC Saturday afternoon. The Ramblers have won the last five meetings with UIC. The Ramblers have won seven of their last eight true road games, including each of the last three, and dating back to last season are 11-2 in their last 13 road or neutral site contests. Loyola has fared well in nonconference action versus teams from the Land of Lincoln, winning nine straight since a 55-47 loss to Northern Illinois on December 18, 2013.

The Ramblers are 9-2 versus Horizon League foes since joining the Missouri Valley Conference for the 2013-14 season. 

Dating back to last season, in its last three true road games, Loyola is putting up 75.3 points per game and shooting an impressive 56.3 percent (80-for-142) from the field and 44.3 percent (27-for-61) from three-point territory.

Loyola – UIC – The Series

Saturday's game is the 56th meeting in a series that began in 1986. Loyola has prevailed in 10 of the last 12 matchups with the Flames, including each of the last five. The Ramblers are just 6-18 against UIC at Credit Union 1 Arena, but have won four of the last six on the Near West Side, including each of the last two meetings there.

When the teams last met at UIC, on December 17, 2016, Donte Ingram nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime and the Ramblers went on to capture an 81-75 victory. Milton Doyle netted a team-best 22 points, while Ingram added 20, to lead Loyola.

At Gentile Arena last December, Aundre Jackson scored 23 points as Loyola put on an offensive clinic en route to an 85-61 victory. In addition to shooting 54.8 percent from the field (34-for-62) and 57.1 percent (8-for-14) from downtown, the Ramblers registered a staggering 29 assists on 34 field goals. Lucas Williamson (14 points) and Clayton Custer (10 points) also finished in double figures in scoring.

Loyola's last loss in the series came on January 16, 2013 (61-59). Each of the last six encounters between the Ramblers and Flames at Credit Union 1 Arena have been decided by 10 or fewer points.

Scouting UIC

UIC had a three-game winning streak grind to a halt with an 89-75 loss at Saint Joseph's Wednesday night despite 23 points and 10 rebounds from Tarkus Ferguson. 

The Flames are undefeated in three contests at Credit Union 1 Arena this season, where they are putting up 88.3 ppg. Ferguson leads the high-powered UIC offense with 18.7 ppg, while adding 6.0 rpg and 6.0 apg. Two other Flames contribute over 15.0 ppg – Marcus Ottey (16.6) and Godwin Boahen (15.0).
