FORT MYERS, Fla. (November 21, 2018)

In Short
Boston College (4-1) shot 51.7 percent (30-for-58) from the field and held off a furious second-half rally from Loyola University Chicago (4-2) to earn a 78-66 victory tonight in the championship game of the Fort Myers Tip-Off at Suncoast Credit Union Arena. The loss halts Loyola's three-game winning streak.

How It Happened
Boston College moved ahead to stay midway through the opening half when it scored seven unanswered points to stake claim to a 23-16 lead. Four different Ramblers scored as part of an 8-3 Loyola surge that cut the deficit to 26-24, but the Eagles countered by tallying 10 of the final 12 points of the period to go into the break ahead 36-26.

A three from Wynston Tabbs and a bucket by Jordan Chatman extended BC's lead to 15 (41-26) in the opening minute of the second half and the advantage would grow to as many as 16 (56-40) before Loyola mounted a furious comeback.

Lucas Williamson knocked down a three-pointer from the corner to jumpstart a 13-2 Loyola run that also included another three from the sophomore guard as well as a triple from Marques Townes, to draw within 58-53. That was where the rally would stop though, as the Eagles responded by going on a 13-4 run to put the Ramblers in a 71-57 hole and reclaim control of the contest.

A Look At The Numbers
  • Clayton Custer scored a team-high 17 points to lead Loyola, which connected on only 29.2 percent (7-for-24) of its three-point tries tonight. The point guard added three rebounds, three assists and four steals.
