In Short…
Senior
Emily Lange scored with just over two minutes remaining in regulation to cap off a thrilling 3-2 win for the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team over host Evansville this evening at Arad McCutchan Stadium in Evansville, Ind. With the win, Loyola's fifth straight, the Ramblers improve to 8-3-0 overall (2-0-0 MVC), while the Purple Aces drop to 4-7-0 (0-1-0 MVC).
Coach Bimbi's Thoughts…
"Give a lot of credit to Evansville. They took us out of our rhythm for most of the night. It's huge to get three points on the road, and I'm very proud of how this group responded after going down a goal late in the game."
How It Happened
Loyola came out attacking from the onset in the first half. Sophomore
Sienna Cruz forced a stop out of Michaela Till, the Evansville netminder, just 22 seconds into the opening stanza. Senior
Katie Grall came within inches of putting the Ramblers on top in the 20
th minute, only to see her blast ring off of Till's crossbar.
Evansville notched its first shot of the night in the 26
th minute when Jayme-Lee Hunter skied her attempt. Loyola went right back on the attack as freshman
Lindsey Hardiman forced another stop out of Till. Despite holding an 8-1 edge in shots in the opening 45 minutes, the Ramblers found themselves in a scoreless deadlock heading into halftime.
Senior goalkeeper
Maddie Ford and Till both received an assist from their respective defenses early in the second half. Montana Portenier saw her shot cleared off the line in the 56
th minute before Cruz suffered the same fate just over five minutes later. Portenier would break the stalemate in the 72
nd minute as she finished inside the 18-yard box to put Evansville on top, 1-0. Senior
Avalon Senn-Raemont wasted little time in answering back for the Maroon & Gold when she headed past Till following a scrum inside the box to pull Loyola even, 1-1, in the 75
th minute.
Hardiman would give the Ramblers their first lead of the night in the 84
th minute of play. Following a corner kick from junior
Taylor Lambouris, the freshman unleashed a screaming blast that bested Till at her near post to put Loyola in front, 2-1. That lead would prove to be short-lived as Mikayla Harvey put the Purple Aces back on level terms only 48 seconds later by chipping a Sara Osinski free kick past Ford to make it 2-2. Lange would prove to have the final say in the 88
th minute. Junior
Jenna Szczesny crossed a ball into the box that sophomore
Aleksa Tataryn played over to Lange. The senior riffled her attempt from six yards in at the far post to ultimately secure a 3-2 victory.
