Loyola Heads South To Face UNC Wilmington In Savannah

Ramblers seek sixth straight win to open 2017-18 season

CHICAGO (November 22, 2017) -
Loyola opens a stretch that will see it play six of its next eight games away from home when it meets UNC Wilmington in the Savannah Invitational Friday afternoon. Over the last three-plus seasons, the Ramblers are 9-3 in multi-team events (MTE's), and in 2014-15, captured the title at the Las Vegas Classic, knocking off Texas Tech and Boise State. At 5-0, Loyola is off to its best start since going 7-0 to open the 2010-11 campaign. Loyola has started a season 6-0 a total of eight times since World War II. The Ramblers are 10-1 in their last 11 games versus non-Missouri Valley opponents.
 
Series Stuff
This is the first-ever meeting between Loyola and UNC Wilmington. Loyola is 3-0 all-time against current members of the Colonial Athletic Association, with wins over William & Mary (2-0) and Delaware (1-0). The Ramblers are playing a CAA opponent for the first time since December 2, 2008, when they knocked off William & Mary, 64-61 in Chicago.
 
Scouting UNC Wilmington
A rested UNCW squad is coming off of an 88-84 victory over Campbell on November 18. The Seahawks are a high-scoring team that averages 91.3 points per game and shoots 50 percent from the field and 43.1 percent from three-point land. However, opponents are equally effective against UNCW at the offensive end of the floor, putting up 91.0 ppg, while knocking down 47.8 percent of their shots. Four Seahawks average double-figure points, led by 6-foot-7 junior forward Devontae Cacok who is tallying 19.7 points and 16.7 rebounds per contest. A year ago, UNCW went 29-6 and gave Virginia all it could handle before bowing out, 76-71, in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
