CHICAGO (October 28, 2017)
In Short
Aundre Jackson (20 points) was one of four players to score in double figures for Loyola University Chicago as it rolled to a 79-63 victory over Lewis tonight in an exhibition game at Gentile Arena. The Ramblers connected on 22 of 24 attempts from the foul line en route to the victory.
Coach Porter Moser's Thoughts
"Playing a team as good as Lewis can only help us. They run their offense with great pace and are a really good team. Our guys respected this game a lot. I thought we played with good pace, but we have to improve in a lot of areas. I liked the demeanor of our guys. There will be days when you don't shoot well but we never dropped our heads when we weren't shooting it well from three."
How It Happened
Loyola struggled from the perimeter in the first half, hitting just 2 of 10 shots from three-point range, with both treys coming courtesy of
Ben Richardson, who totaled eight points in the opening 20 minutes.
A Cristen Wilson jumper with 9:10 left in the period put Lewis on top, 17-16, but Loyola answered right back when Richardson drained the Ramblers' first three-pointer of the night after misfiring on their first seven attempts from long distance. That trey ignited a run of 11 unanswered points from Loyola, six of which came from the foul line, and gave the hosts a 27-17 lead, their largest of the half.
Jackson netted 14 points in the opening 20 minutes alone, hitting 7 of 12 shots from the field, to help Loyola to a 37-33 lead at the break.
Lewis scored the first three points of the second half to close within one (37-36), but Loyola received six points from freshman
Cameron Krutwig as part of a game-changing 22-7 run to open up a commanding 59-43 lead with 9:00 left in regulation.
The Ramblers' lead would grow to as many as 19 points, the first coming on
Donte Ingram's layup with 3:44 left to play, the last occurring when
Lucas Williamson drained a three-pointer form the right wing in the final minute of play.
