Coach Bimbi's Thoughts…
"I'm very proud of our girls' performance today and how we responded to the setback on Wednesday at Illinois State. This should give us some added confidence going into our last two conference games."
How It Happened
Loyola wasted no time in jumping in front on a cloudy afternoon in Lexington. Just eight minutes in, junior
Taylor Lambouris curled her corner kick in at the far post to give the Ramblers an early 1-0 edge. Kentucky responded from a set piece of its own in the 27
th minute. Katy Keen sent a free kick from 25 yards out that connected flush with Yuuka Kurosaki, who rifled her attempt into the back of the net to level the game up at 1-1.
The Maroon & Gold finished the opening stanza with a flurry, scoring three goals over a 12:08 span. Sophomore
Aleksa Tataryn opened the barrage seconds before the half-hour mark when she cleaned up a rebound off of a blast by junior
Jenna Szczesny to put Loyola back in front, 2-1. Senior
Katie Grall doubled the lead four minutes later as she corralled a deflection off of a cross before slotting home to up the margin to 3-1. Grall capped off a banner first half for the Ramblers in the 42
nd minute by finishing off a feed from Szczesny to send Loyola racing into the break with a 4-1 advantage.
Senior
Avalon Senn-Raemont and freshman
Kat Stephens put Loyola on the board again just over 15 minutes into the second half. Stephens sent a cross into the box that Senn-Raemont got just enough of to best Kentucky goalkeeper Abigail Zoeller, stretching the lead to 5-1. Foster Ignoffo pulled a goal back for the hosts in the 69
th minute, dribbling across the face of goal before scoring to make it 5-2, but that would be as close as Kentucky would get as Loyola closed out an impressive road victory.
Looking At The Numbers
