CHICAGO (October 11, 2017) - Loyola returns home looking to break a program-record, 11-match losing skid when it hosts Evansville and Indiana State this weekend. The Ramblers are 7-6 in their last 13 home matches in the month of October. Loyola has played better of late, winning three sets in its last three matches after recording just one set victory in its previous eight contests.
Scouting the Opponents
Evansville snapped a 10-match losing skid with a five-set victory over Bradley on Monday night in Evansville. Mildrelis Rodriguez had a huge night for the Purple Aces, totaling 21 kills and 22 digs to lead UE to its first Missouri Valley Conference win of the year. The Purple Aces are 2-6 in true road contests this season, but have dropped their last six away from home.
Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Tam leads Evansville's offensive attack with 3.01 kills per set, while freshman libero Cassie Brooks paces the club with 4.36 digs per set. This will be the 30th meeting between Loyola and Evansville and the Ramblers hold a commanding 23-6 edge in the all-time series. Loyola has prevailed in each of the last four meetings overall between the teams and has won seven of the last eight against the Aces in Chicago.
Indiana State enters the weekend on a three-match losing skid and has dropped its last nine sets. The Sycamores are 1-4 in true road matches this fall, but earned a four-set victory at Southern Illinois in their last contest away from home.
Cassie Kawa leads a balanced Sycamore attack with 2.48 kills per set and her impressive .349 (171-51-344) hitting percentage ranks second in The Valley. Damadj Johnson contributes 1.07 blocks per set, a figure that places her third in the conference. Loyola and Indiana State are meeting for the 15th time and the Ramblers own a slight 8-6 lead in the all-time series. After winning six of the first seven meetings, Loyola is just 2-5 in its last seven versus ISU.
