In Short...
Visiting No. 17/16 DePaul shot a blistering 52% from the field as it handed the Loyola University Chicago women's basketball team a 107-46 defeat this afternoon inside Gentile Arena. With the win, the Blue Demons now sit at 7-4 on the year, while the Ramblers fall to 1-9.
How It Happened
DePaul raced out to an early 8-0 lead before Citiana Negatu connected on a jumper to make it 8-2 with just over two minutes gone in the opening quarter. Back-to-back threes by Amarah Coleman stretched the Blue Demon advantage to 14-2 shortly after and prompted a Rambler timeout. A driving score by Negatu chipped the deficit to 16-6 at the 6:23 mark but DePaul finished the frame on a 13-2 to run to widen the gap to 29-8 at the end of the first quarter.
Kaitlyn Williams' first of two threes on the afternoon, followed by a steal and score by Tiara Wallace, helped pull the Maroon & Gold to within 36-15 with 6:57 remaining in the half. A fade away jumper from Jacqui Grant pushed the Blue Demons' advantage to 45-15 two minutes later. Williams knocked down another triple with just 18 seconds remaining in the half to make it 58-25 at halftime.
A deep three by Jessica January pushed the DePaul lead to 63-26 at the 7:47 mark of the third quarter as the Blue Demons continued to operate efficiently on the offensive end. An old-fashioned three-point play by Katie Salmon cut the margin to 34, 62-29, but DePaul stayed hot, closing the quarter on a 9-0 run to open up an 86-36 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Brandi Segars connected on a long two early on in the final frame to make it 88-38. Kiana Coomber muscled up a shot in the paint just before the midway point of the quarter to pull Loyola to within 92-40. The Ramblers would get no closer for the remainder of regulation as DePaul coasted to a 107-46 win.
