DAYTON, Ohio - A high-powered Loyola University Chicago (10-13, 2-3 Horizon) offense recorded 13 hits en route to an 8-2 victory over Wright State in the finale of a three-game weekend series this afternoon. The Ramblers have now won four of their last five games.
Showing signs of clicking after an early-season slump, the Loyola bats got things started in the top of the second inning and Lauren Arceneaux's two-run double highlighted a three-run frame that gave the visitors a 3-0 lead.
Wright State got a run closer in the bottom half of the inning thanks to Mollie Berry's RBI double, but in the top of the third, Stephanie Cihlar reached on a one-out single and one batter later, Angie Funston crushed a two-run homer to left to put Loyola ahead, 5-1.
The Ramblers tacked on a run in the top of the fourth inning on Brooke Andresen's RBI single that plated Ellen Kresl and in the seventh, wrapped up their scoring when Arceneaux stroked a two-run double to provide the final score.
Cihlar and Kresl each tallied three hits on the day, while Jenna Grim and Arceneaux (four RBI) recorded two hits apiece. Funston was solid in the pitching circle, tossing a complete game and scattering seven hits while striking out a pair.
Loyola is back in action Wednesday, April 7 when it hosts a doubleheader versus UIC.
